Volkswagen is set to give its medium panel van a light facelift next year, four years after its launch. The Volkswagen Transporter T6 2019 upgrade isn’t expected to be too extensive, and is expected to include to a new grille, front bumper, dashboard layout and the introduction of new technology.
Volkswagen first launched the Transporter, known then as the Type 2, back in 1950 and in its 68-year history has gone on to sell almost 13 million examples. The most recent version, the Transporter T6, went on sale in 2015, although the van hasn’t altered much since the T5 was introduced in 2003.
The German manufacturer has long employed a policy of evolution, rather than revolution, with its commercial vehicles. Instead of larger overhauls, Volkswagen prefers to embark on smaller updates, more frequently.
Volkswagen Transporter T6 2019 upgrades
So far, only spy shots of the new vehicle have been seen. Although it isn’t a definitive confirmation of what the new vehicle will look like, we believe this is likely to be a true depiction, which means it is a very modest upgrade.
The only differences that we have noted have been made to the grille and front bumper. The split grille design of the previous generation has been integrated into one, large grille, the fog light surrounds have also been altered.
It’s hard to get a good idea of what the finished article will look like as both test vehicles in the spy shots were fitted with the standard black plastic bumpers on base models which alters the appearance considerably, but these will be body-coloured on mid- and high-spec models.
Volkswagen Transporter T6 2019 price and availability
The 2019 Volkswagen Transporter T6 is expected to hit VW’s 72-strong Van Centre network at the back end of 2019, and prices aren’t expected to differ too much from the current £20,930 to £38,530 plus VAT list prices.
