Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Review – Read Our Essential Guide

Last year Mercedes-Benz vans launched the electric version of their medium sized van the Vito, unsurprisingly they called it – eVito. Of course the best selling van in their range is the Sprinter and this month (August 2020) Mercedes-Benz announced the launch of the eSprinter.

Mercedes-Benz eSprinter specification

Initially the eSprinter will be available only in the PROGRESSIVE trim level and on the front wheel drive versions of the L2 H2 panel van. The specification includes heated drivers seat, air-conditioning DAB radio as well as 270-degree double doors. On the safety side, the standard specification includes Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Crosswind Assist and Emergency eCall.

Mercedes-Benz eSprinter battery and motor

The 55kWh battery is configured around four 365v battery blocks connected in parallel manufactured by Deutsche Accumotive, a subsidiary of Daimler. The Lithium-ion blocks can be replaced separately if required, and use NMC chemistry. Whilst the battery has a 55kWh capacity, as normal around 15% is “reserved” for essential memory and data information, leaving 47kWh available in practice.

The motor is rated at 114 bhp or 85kW and it delivers 295Nm of torque, the power rating is slightly under the most popular Sprinter power rating around 130bhp.

Mercedes-Benz eSpinter Range

Mercedes-Benz are quoting two ranges, both based on WLTP, 83 miles at 120kph or 96 miles at an optional 80 kph. Looking closer at the WLTP figures we find based around the 80kph linear speed their combined range is between 83 miles (134kph) and 110 miles (178kph). Electrical consumption is quoted at between 30.6 and 50.6 kWh per 100km.
