The LDV eV90 is the upcoming large electric van from SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), brought to the UK by the Dublin-based importer Harris Group. Based on the existing platform, the Chinese-built van obliterates its European counterparts (like the eSprinter and eCrafter) for productivity, with an impressive 161-mile range and a 73kWh battery.
Since re-entering the market in 2016, LDV has placed a huge emphasis on electric and its not hard to see why. China – where LDVs are now made – is the global leader in electric vehicles, accounting for over 50% of global sales and Chinese manufacturers like SAIC are considered to rival, or even better, western manufacturers in terms of EV manufacturing capabilities.

The LDV eV80 has been on the market since 2017 and is priced at £54,000 including the PiVG (Plug-In Vehicle Grant) but excluding VAT. The vehicle has sold relatively well thanks to its impressive 126-mile range (around 40 miles more than most large electric vans) and recently secured a large order for 159 from Milk & More.
All new LDV eV90
The LDV eV90 has been constructed by using the same platform as the current eV80 electric van, but every panel has been changed. Weights and payloads have yet to be announced but its expected the new model will be rated at the new maximum for electric vehicles (4.25t gross vehicle weight) and payloads will be offered up to around 1,400kg.
There will be a number of body lengths and heights offered, up to around 11 cubic metres. Thanks to a 114hp/350Nm electric motor, the new electric van will also pack a lot of punch.
Battery and charging
The 73kWh battery is one of the largest ever offered on a light commercial vehicle and demonstrates LDV’s expertise in this area. It has an average range of around 161 miles, which eclipses anything offered in this sector from European brands like the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter and Volkswagen eCrafter. Charging times depend on the charger; a 7kW home charger will take around 10 hours and 50kW public charge will take around an hour and a half.
LDV eV90 price and availability
The LDV eV90 will be priced from around £65,000 excluding the PiVG and VAT (£57,000 plus VAT including the grant) and sales are expected to start around September 2020. The vehicle will be backed by LDV’s outstanding 5-ytear, 125,000-mile warranty.
